The Importance of Early Socialization in Puppies

Early socialization plays a critical role in developing a puppy's behavior and temperament, ensuring they grow into well-adjusted adult dogs. At Dacus Doodles, we pride ourselves on starting socialization as early as three days old. We believe a puppy's early development stage can shape their future.

What is Early Socialization?
Early socialization involves exposing puppies to various stimuli, such as different environments, sounds, people, and other animals, during their critical developmental period. This exposure helps them become comfortable in new settings and reduces the risk of unwanted behaviors in unfamiliar situations.

Dacus Doodles' Approach to Early Socialization
Our commitment to early socialization includes several key practices:

  • Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS): Starting from day three to sixteen, our goldendoodle puppies undergo ENS exercises, which are believed to enhance their stress tolerance, strengthen their cardiovascular systems, and build stronger immune systems.

  • Early Scent Introduction (ESI): We also introduce each litter to various scents ranging from spices to food and more. This daily practice aims to enhance and recognize their scent ability. This is a key factor in helping our puppy evaluator select service dog prospects, as we have several puppies who go on to be diabetic or seizure medical alert service dogs!

  • Daily Sensory Environments: Puppies are gradually exposed to different sounds, sights, and surfaces to build their confidence and adaptability. We introduce various settings as the pups get older as they become more aware of their surroundings and explore different textures.

Benefits of Early Socialization
Implementing early socialization practices offers numerous benefits including improved health as ENS has been linked to a stronger cardiovascular and immune system. Furthermore, puppies exposed to various stimuli early on have better chances of adapting to various settings and are often easier to train.

Our goal is to ensure our puppies are well-prepared for various lifestyles, giving them every opportunity to successfully adapt to their new homes. Not every breeder provides these additional benefits, but we are proud to enhance our puppies' ability to live a happy, fulfilling life!
